
Sapienza awards an honorary degree to Michael David Reeve
On Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 4.00 pm, the Recorate's Senate Hall hosted the ceremony to confer an honorary degree in Philology, Literature and History of the Ancient World upon Michael David Reeve, Professor Emeritus of Latin at the University of Cambridge and a foreign member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. The honour was conferred in recognition of his extraordinary scholarly achievements in the field of classical philology and the history of the transmission of Latin texts.
The ceremony began with an opening address by the Rector, Antonella Polimeni, followed by a speech by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Arianna Punzi. The praise was delivered by Giorgio Piras, a lecturer in Classical Philology. Michael David Reeve delivered the keynote lecture entitled Un’indagine da compiere.
