Sapienza University of Rome has been awarded six projects, one of which it will coordinate, under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Networks 2025, the European Commission’s flagship research programme, which is the main European instrument for promoting and supporting the doctoral training of young researchers. Thanks to total funding of €3,850,652.76, Sapienza will be able to recruit 13 researchers and fund a number of research projects, thereby supporting the development of future talent.

Sapienza is the international lead partner of the Calliope project, which brings together researchers from the universities of Bamberg, Barcelona, Cambridge and Zurich. The project – coordinated by Nadia Cannata of Sapienza’s Department of European, American and Intercultural Studies – develops an innovative, multidisciplinary and comparative research method that investigates the role women played in the emergence of a written and linguistic culture in medieval and modern Europe (6th–15th centuries). Calliope’s methodology encompasses material culture, the history of written culture, social history, prosopography, as well as historical sociolinguistics and philology in its broadest sense. The project, which has received funding of €1,127,020.32, covers the Latin, Romance and Germanic linguistic areas. The results will be published on a single digital platform and will become part of the Eurotales Museum Collection, part of Sapienza Museums, expanding and enhancing the collections hosted by our university and enriching them with cutting-edge research.
