Sapienza Team Wins 6 Medals at the Dubai Solar Decathlon

The team of Sapienza students who developed Project ReStart4Smart, coordinated by Prof. Marco Casini from the Department of Architecture, have won six medals at the International Olympics for Sustainable Architecture, the Solar Decathlon Middle East 2018.

The Sapienza team, representing not only our university, but Italy, too, has won six medals at the International Olympics for Sustainable Architecture, the Solar Decathlon Middle East 2018 with Project ReStart4Smart.

The team of university students, coordinated by Marco Casini, Professor of Technology Engineering at the Department of Architecture, worked for over two years on developing the project, integrating subject areas and competences related to the design and development of an eco-sustainable domotic house. The house was pre-assembled in Pomezia (Rome) and then erected in Dubai, where the competition projects have been showcased since November 14. ReStart4Smart was the only Italian team to reach the final competition phase.

The house developed by the Sapienza team is made of recycled wood and has a large living room area (32 square meters), two bedrooms, one large bathroom, a guest room, a kitchen equipped with smart appliances for a total of 160 square meters. “The entire structure is controlled by an innovative domotics system, as well as 32 solar panels that produce twice its energetic needs,” explains Prof. Casini.
