Lazio Region Strategic Projects

Sapienza University, together with Campus Biomedico, the National Research Council of Italy, the Italian Institute of Technology, the Italian National Institute of Health and Università Cattolica, coordinates the management of 10 Research and Industrial Development projects.


SMILE project 

The SMILE project aims to develop a wearable, non-invasive system for continuous, real-time monitoring of heart rate, respiration and perspiration in work and sport environments. Visit the Italian version of this article for more details.

HeAL 9000 Project

The project aims to create a "Service Robot" operating in orthopaedic rehabilitation therapy. Specific cognitive and physical interaction skills will make the Robot capable of: observing, perceiving the surrounding environment and learning new behaviours, physically interacting with people and objects, adapting to the context, monitoring and dialoguing with the patient, taking autonomous decisions through learning mechanisms. SAFE-MATE-ECG Project

Silent Atrial Fibrillation ECG Monitor with Artificial inTElligence

The project aims to develop a wearable ECG Monitor with extended autonomy and artificial intelligence-based diagnostic algorithms for the early diagnosis of clinically relevant cardiac arrhythmias, primarily atrial fibrillation. Visit the Italian version of this article for more details.

FRAGILI project 

Moving data, not patients. The project, defined as "Teleassistance" according to the National Guidelines for Telemedicine, envisages a domotic support system for "fragile" people (with chronic pathologies, disability, multimorbidity, loneliness, elderly). NANO-TAFT project 

Precision photo-thermal anti-cancer therapy with gold nanoparticles bound to PET radiopharmaceuticals

The project's main objective is to develop an apparatus of integrated diagnostic imaging methods, able to test an advanced precision anti-cancer therapy with gold nanoparticles bound to PET radiopharmaceuticals based on photothermia. Visit the Italian version of this article for more details.

HiRIs project

High-Resolution Imaging System - HiRIS

The project aims to develop an innovative SPECT/CT for small animals. The use of Super Spatial Resolution (SSR) in SPECT will improve performance to sub-millimetre spatial resolutions. Visit the Italian version of this article for more details.

INTSEPS project 

Within the Area of Life Sciences (ERC LS6_7 Microbiology), the project aims to develop an integrated microbiological diagnostic device for sepsis, a syndrome that affects millions of people and causes as many deaths worldwide. Visit the Italian version of this article for more details.

TRUST-ME project

The TRUST-ME project, Rapid test on urine, blood or saliva with biosensors for the diagnosis of infectious diseases, aims to create medical devices based on the use of a biosensor capable of detecting in a few minutes the presence in biological fluids of antigens or antibodies of clinical interest, indicative of infectious disease or vaccine protection. Visit the Italian version of this article for more details.

SENSOCARD project

SENSOCARD proposes the optimisation and field demonstration of an integrated prototype, DIREC+, to diagnose cardiovascular emergencies.   

The project is supported by the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences (Sapienza University of Rome) in defining the evaluation criteria for the parameters collected by the system. Visit the Italian version of this article for more details.

LSEH project

DHelp4H project

The DHelp4H project integrates multidisciplinary engineering, computer science, medical and neurophysiological expertise to create an e-community in healthcare through a new Digital Helper product - EIMe4H ADAM - that enables biomedical engineers to rapidly develop web/mobile applications based on Instant Messaging and Chatbots. Visit the Italian version of this article for more details.

PISTIS project

The project aims to improve the quality of life of vulnerable people (the elderly, patients with chronic diseases, etc.) through the implementation of an innovative technological platform which, through the use of sensors, telemedicine, voice assistant, IoT domotics and computer vision, can harmonise the home environment, making it a virtual caregiver. Visit the Italian version of this article for more details.

MICOLET project

Optical Cavity Microscope for diagnosis of deep skin lesions at TeraHertz frequencies MICOLET

This project will develop a TeraHertz-band microscopy device for the non-invasive diagnosis of deep skin lesions with a new data acquisition mode that will allow high-speed acquisitions and a compact instrument volume. Visit the Italian version of this article for more details.

PaGIMeter project 

Immunosensors modified with nanostructured material for the detection of faecal biomarkers of inflammation and intestinal permeability: a major advance in the management of high prevalence diseases – PaGIMeter

ITHACA project 

Integration of High-throughput Technologies for Fast Screening of Antibodies for Cancer Therapies

The ITHACA project is a collaboration between Takis, Università Campus Biomedico and CNR, whose goal is to develop highly innovative and efficient microfluidic systems to identify monoclonal antibodies for cancer treatment. Visit the Italian version of this article for more details.

Human Genome Project 

The project aims to create the first Genome-Microbiome database on Down's Syndrome and make the research results and the project available. Bioinformatic analysis of genomes will be used to train machine-learning models for clinical studies.  Visit the Italian version of this article for more details.

NBP project 

"Development and implementation of a collaborative platform for advanced neuroimaging methods".
