I genî di Mozia, published by Il Vomere, is a novel written by Lorenzo Nigro, professor of Ancient Near Eastern archaeology and art history, set among the Phoenician ruins studied by the Sapienza University archaeological mission

The novel retraces the history of the island, home to the Sapienza archaeological mission coordinated by Lorenzo Nigro, bringing to the scene some of the most important archaeologists of the past, Heinrich Schliemann, the discoverer of Troy, and Vincenzo Tusa, a Sicilian archaeologist who has linked his name to the study of the sites of Selinunte and Segesta and the island of Mozia itself. Co-protagonist is Giuseppe Garibaldi, the hero of the two worlds, who spent a decisive night in Mozia. In the book, Garibaldi is searching for a treasure, five million gold ducats belonging to the House of Bourbon confiscated by Nino BIxio from the Banco di Palermo and disappearing into thin air: an immense wealth to be returned to Mozia, and Sicily.

The story is intertwined with that of Joseph Whitaker, heir to an English family that produced Marsala wine, who bought the island at the beginning of the 20th century intending to turn it into a small autonomous kingdom, and with that of his wife Tina and daughters Nerina and Delia, three sad female figures who are finally rediscovered.
