
Sapienza is among the top 200 universities worldwide according to THE World University Rankings 2022
Excellent performance for Sapienza according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022, released on September 2, 2021. Our University is 197th out of 1662 universities assessed, making it one of the top 200 universities in the world for the first time. It is in the second position nationally out of 51 Italian universities evaluated, right after the University of Bologna, in 172nd position. Sapienza has significantly improved its result; last year, THE rankings placed it in the 201-250 bracket. It has gone from the 301-350 bracket in 2012 to the current rank of 197 out of 1662 universities in ten years.
Sapienza is number one in Italy and 97th in the world for quality of teaching, with a Teaching score of 51.5 that places our University in the top 100 worldwide. For THE, the Teaching area accounts for 30% of the ranking and includes 5 indicators.
For the Research category, assessed through an academic survey, research productivity and research funding, Sapienza is 198th globally, making it one of the 200 best research universities in the world. It also improved its ranking for Citation, Industry income and International outlook.
Today's ranking confirms the continuous growth of Sapienza, which climbs up the rankings from year to year, especially thanks to the results in teaching and research," highlights Rector Antonella Polimeni. "Being in the Top 200 international universities is an achievement to be proud of, which repays the entire university community for its constant commitment, but it is also a stimulus for further improvements.
