1. Conditions and restrictions for simultaneous enrolment in two degree programmes. According to Law no. 33 of April 12, 2022, and its implementing decrees, without prejudice to the entry requirements for each degree programme, simultaneous enrolment in two degree programmes is permitted, even at more than one university, school or special-order higher education institution. Simultaneous enrolment is permitted at two Italian institutions or at one Italian and an international one.
Simultaneous enrolment in two study courses belonging to the same degree class or providing for compulsory attendance of classes is not permitted. This provision does not apply to degree programmes for which compulsory attendance is envisaged only for laboratory and internship activities.
Simultaneous enrolment is also not permitted for those who are already enrolled in a degree programme that provides for the award of a double or multiple degree and who have chosen to participate in the international study plan. Similarly, anyone who is simultaneously enrolled in two degree programmes may not opt for the international study plans that envisage the award of a double or multiple degree, which may be envisaged in the two degree programmes.
According to the provisions of the regulation, it is possible to enrol in:
two bachelor’s degrees (not belonging to the same degree class) / Afam (Higher education in art, music and dance);
- two Master’s degrees (not belonging to the same degree class) / Afam (Higher education in art, music and dance);
- a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree or Afam and an Advanced Professional Course;
- a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree or Afam and a PhD programme;
- a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree or Afam and a Specialisation Programme (non-medical).
Simultaneous enrolment in two Bahelor’s degrees or two Master's degrees of different classes is only allowed if the two degree programmes differ in at least 2/3 of their educational activities.
With reference to simultaneous enrolment in two PhD programmes, Advanced Professional Courses or Specialisation programmes, details are provided in the Programme Regulations of the respective programmes.
No restrictions are envisaged for training courses and advanced training courses.
2. Operational modes. When enrolling in a degree programme, candidates who are already enrolled in a degree programme and wish to simultaneously enrol in another degree programme must send a self-certification to the student affairs office of the second degree programme they wish to enrol in. Enrolment in the second degree programme is only possible if the obligations relating to the payments for the first degree programme have been fulfilled.
The form for Sapienza University of Rome degree programmes is available on the Student forms page, in the Downloads section.
3. Right to education. Those who simultaneously enrol in two degree programmes pursuant to the preceding paragraphs shall benefit, under the conditions provided for by the regulations in force, from the tools and services supporting the right to education for a single enrolment, chosen by students themselves, without prejudice to the total or partial exemption from the payment of the one-off annual all-inclusive fee, which shall apply to both enrolments, if the requirements are met. Those who are already enrolled in a degree programme in years subsequent to the first cannot identify, as a reference for the purposes of the benefits for the right to education, the programme relating to the second enrolment.
4. Recognition of educational activities. Students simultaneously enrolled in two degree programmes may request recognition of the educational activities carried out in one of the two degree programmes by sending a stamped request for credit recognition by e-mail, using the “Credit recognition” (“Riconoscimento crediti”) form available on the university website, on the Student forms page.
Art. 9a - For study visa applicants. (Addition to the resolution of the Academic Senate of December 12, 2022, concerning the redrafting of Articles 9 and 47 of these Regulations following the enactment of Law 33 of April 12, 2022, and the related implementing decrees regulating the procedures for allowing simultaneous enrolment in two degree programmes)
1. The abolition of the ban on simultaneous enrolment in higher education programmes (as a result of Law no. 33 of April 12, 2022, and subsequent indications in MUR Decree no. 930 of July 29, 2022, and MUR Decree no. 933 of August 2, 2022) does not have any effect in reference to the procedures for entry, residence, enrolment of those coming from abroad and the relative recognition of qualifications, for higher education programmes in Italy, which remain unchanged with regard to the request for a visa and residence permit for a degree programme. Those who have already enrolled in the main programme (programme listed in the pre-enrolment application on the Universitaly platform), will have the option of subsequently requesting enrolment in another programme. Therefore, when applying for the visa and subsequent residence permit, this case is not covered, as enrolment in the main degree programme has not yet been completed.
