Erasmus+ projects 2014-2020
Sapienza actively participates in all actions of the European Union's Erasmus+ programme for Education, Training, Youth and Sport 2014-2020. Approved by the EU Regulation no. 1288/2013 of the European Parliament and the Council, it combines and complements the previous funding mechanisms implemented by the European Union until 2013.
Sapienza University of Rome is a coordinator or partner in the following projects, funded under the various actions of the Erasmus+ programme.
For individual mobility projects (students and staff), please refer to the "Studying abroad" section (see Internal Navigation).
KA1 - Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees
The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's Degrees are among the opportunities provided under the Centralised Key Action 1 (KA1) of the ERASMUS+ Programme, inherited from the previous positive experience of the ERASMUS MUNDUS Community Programme. The joint pathways represent an excellent example of collaboration between European universities (and not only) and are interesting quality opportunities for young people with at least a first cycle academic qualification. One of the main aims of these courses is to attract students from other continents to European Universities.

Sectoral skills alliances aim to address skills shortages either by identifying existing sectoral specific needs and demand for new skills for one or more job profiles or by improving the ability to respond to the specific sectoral needs of the market. Sector Skills Alliances identify and develop solid actions to facilitate the matching of skills supply and demand in support of the overall sector-specific growth strategy.
They aim to achieve the following objectives:
- strategic approaches to sectoral skills development, through partnerships on sustainable cooperation between stakeholders in sectoral and public authorities;
- identification of existing and emerging skills needs for sector-specific occupations and integration of this information into the European skills panorama;
- strengthening the exchange of knowledge and practices between education and training institutions and the labour market, with particular reference to sectoral participants;
- promotion of relevant sectoral qualifications and agreement on support for their recognition and more.

KA2 - European Universities
This action aims to encourage the creation of about twenty "European universities" by 2024, part of university networks across the EU. Students will then be able to obtain a degree by combining studies in different EU countries and contributing to the international competitiveness of European universities.
The "European Universities" intend to establish:
- a shared, integrated and long-term common strategy for education, with innovative elements and links to research and society at large;
- a European inter-university "campus" for higher education offering programmes where students can experience mobility at all levels of study;
- structured collaborations to address the continuing challenges of the society in a multidisciplinary and multilingual approach;
- models of good practice to progressively increase the international competitiveness, quality and attractiveness of European higher education.
This action will test different models of innovative and structural cooperation.

Sport
Erasmus+ sports activities aim to support actions that increase capacity and professionalism, improve management skills, and increase the quality of EU projects, as well as the creation of links between organisations in the sports sector.
In particular, these activities should aim at:
- Addressing cross-border threats to the integrity of sport;
- promoting and supporting good governance in sport and the parallel careers of athletes;
- promoting voluntary activities, social inclusion and equal opportunities in sport;
- raising awareness of the health benefits of physical activity;
- increasing participation in sport
The programme funds collaborative partnerships and non-profit sporting events and supports actions that aim to strengthen data for policymaking and promote dialogue with stakeholders.
Actions in the sports field focus mainly on grassroots sports.
At a systemic level, actions in this area should contribute to the development of the European dimension in sport; from an individual perspective, projects supported by Erasmus+ should lead to increased levels of participation in sport and the promotion of the physical activity.
