Safety at Sapienza in four steps

A video created by the doctors of the School of Specialisation in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine illustrates four basic rules to tackle the resumption of activities after COVID-19 emergency safely

The doctors of the School of Specialisation in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine of Sapienza University, supported by the University Communication Office and the InfoSapienza Centre, created a video which illustrates the four fundamental rules to face the resumption of activities after the COVID-19 emergency in complete safety for oneself and others.

The idea is based on the so-called "bundle" and was inspired by an article published in The New Yorker by Atul Gawande, Harvard lecturer and writer. There is a limited number of interventions, effective and simple to implement: If you put all of them into practice, the effectiveness multiplies. Poster person of the video made by Sapienza students is Giuseppe Sanarelli, eminent lecturer and rector of our University in 1922-1923. He is one of the fathers of modern public health, and the video shows his statue wearing a mask at the entrance of the Hygiene building in the Main Campus.

Here the four steps in English:

  • Wash your hands, and do it often. Use water and soap or hydroalcoholic solutions.
  • With fever or other respiratory symptoms, stay at home—for example, cough, cold, sore throat, gastrointestinal symptoms, alterations in smell or taste.
  • Physical distancing is very important. Two metres (around six feet) or more but never less than 1 metre.
  • Wear your mask at all times in public spaces and when you cannot keep the six-foot rule.
