Just over a year after signing the contract with the European Investment Bank providing funds for over €114,675,000 to Sapienza University (and in conjunction with a further €38,225,000 provided by the university), Sapienza is beginning to unveil its first structural renovations.

The overall plan, which is organised into 10 sub-projects, calls for infrastructural work on libraries, lecture halls, laboratories and residences, both on the main campus and external structures. One of the most important actions concerns lecture halls and will have a significant economical and functional impact on university life. Indeed, work in these areas account for nearly one third of the total funding (€52,000,000), once again underlining the central role of students and the services dedicated to them. 

As of today, €10 million were used to renovate 24 lecture halls – for a total of 2409 seats – are now ready to host lessons. Some of the lecture halls were completely renovated, both architecturally and in terms of services, including air conditioning, while others have been equipped as computer labs. All of the improvements are being carried out on schedule and even ahead of the deadlines indicated by the five-year plan. This has been possible thanks to the in-house projects developed by Sapienza technicians who programmed the operations to take place during the Christmas and summer breaks so as to not impact the academic year. In the meantime, 7 more lecture halls are being renovated and calls have been issued for a further 77. 

“In September, the students who return from their vacations, will find new welcoming lecture halls with WiFi, mobile charging stations and, in some cases, computer work stations to use for their courses,” explains Sapienza Rector Eugenio Gaudio.
