CIVIS Alliance and six leading African universities together for cross-Mediterranean collaboration
On Friday, March 11, 2022, during a meeting organised by Aix-Marseille University, the CIVIS Alliance and six African universities asked the European Universities Initiative - the most recent major EU initiative for the construction of a European Higher Education Area - to strengthen relations between EU and Africa for cross-Mediterranean collaboration in higher education.
The African universities involved are:
- Université Hassan II de Casablanca, Morocco
- Université de Sfax, Tunisia
- Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar, Senegal
- Makerere University, Uganda
- University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa
- Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, Mozambique
A new position paper by CIVIS and the African universities calls, among other things, for the European Universities Initiative to expand student mobility to include visits by European students outside Europe and the hosting of students from all over the world in Europe.
During the meeting in Marseille, a cooperation agreement between CIVIS and African universities was also signed, strengthening existing partnerships between individual universities and South-South cooperation.
