Day of remembrance, Italian flag at half-staff on February 10, 2021, in memory of the foibe victims
February 10, is the Day of Remembrance in memory of the victims of the foibe and the Julian-Dalmatian exodus from Istria, Fiume and Dalmatia, which took place between the end of the Second World War and the early 1950s. The Main Campus's flag is flown at half-staff as well as the other Italian institutions' flags to commemorate the suffering, the mourning, the uprooting and the diaspora to which tens of thousands of families were forced in the areas on Italy's eastern border.
The Day of Remembrance is a national civil holiday in Italy, celebrated on February 10, each year. The law established it on March 30, 2004, to preserve and renew the memory of the tragedy of the Italians and all the victims of the foibe, of the exodus of the Istrians, Fiumans and Dalmatians from their lands after World War II and of the more complex story of the eastern Italian border.
