Grief over the passing of Massimo Scalia
On behalf of herself and the entire university community, Rector Antonella Polimeni expresses her deepest condolences on the passing of Massimo Scalia, professor of mathematical physics in the Department of Mathematics.
He graduated in Physics from Sapienza University in 1969, with a thesis on theoretical nuclear physics, and continued his research in this field in the years immediately following. Scalia was one of the founders of the enviromental movement in Italy, leader of the anti-nuclear movement in the 1970s and 1980s and co-founder of Legambiente. For over 40 years he taught and did research at Sapienza University during which he managed to combine the scientific method with the spirit needed in environmentalist battles and for a new energy future.
