Sapienza hosts the Bebe Vio Academy at Sapienza Sport
After being announced in recent weeks, the Bebe Vio Academy inaugurated its headquarters in Rome today at a press conference held at Sapienza Sport. Three years after opening in Milan, where the project was an immediate success, the inclusive sports academy, created by the Italian Paralympic foil champion Beatrice 'Bebe' Vio Grandis, has launched its activities in Rome.
The Bebe Vio Academy is organised and managed by the art4sport ONLUS association in collaboration with Nike. The aim of the project is to promote Paralympic sport, in line with Bebe's vision, shared and supported by Nike and Sapienza, of making sport accessible to all. The Academy, which in its first three years in Milan has involved around 180 young people, is aimed at children aged between 6 and 18 with physical disabilities, but also at young people without disabilities who want to try out certain sports in the Paralympic version.
In Rome, the programme for the 2024/2025 season kicked off on Tuesday, November 5 and will run until May 2025 with two training sessions a week, on Tuesdays from 17:00 to 18:00 and Thursdays from 16:00 to 18:00.
In the capital, BVA children will be able to compete in six disciplines: athletics, integrated football, sitting volleyball, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby. The latter is a novelty introduced to ensure a wider range of sports in an even more inclusive perspective and will be supported by former international rugby player Martin Castrogiovanni.
Participation in the academy, all sports activities and equipment are provided free of charge by the art4sport ONLUS association.
Thanks to the support of Nike, technical clothing will also be provided.
