Policlinico Umberto I and Sapienza join forces to provide treatment for children from Gaza
Italy and Sapienza University continue their commitment to providing healthcare to children from the Gaza Strip. On the evening of Monday, September 29, a state flight landed with 15 young patients who will be treated in Italy as part of the humanitarian activities coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Among them is Tia, a two-month-old baby girl suffering from a severe form of enterocolitis, together with her mother, brothers and sister. The little girl, whose serious condition was reported directly to Rector Antonella Polimeni by a Sapienza employee with the support of a non-profit organisation operating in the Gaza Strip, was taken into care by doctors at the Policlinico Umberto I General Hospital.
The newborn will remain hospitalised in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Paediatric Clinic, directed by Paola Papoff, where she will undergo oxygen therapy and other targeted treatments.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway to welcome more young patients from the Gaza Strip in the coming weeks. They will undergo their entire course of therapy at the Policlinico Umberto I, the first public hospital in central Italy to be equipped to receive and treat children hit by the current military invasion.
