On behalf of the entire university community, Rector Antonella Polimeni expresses her sincere condolences for the unexpected death of Frank Marzano, Full Professor at the Department of Information Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications.

Marzano was co-founder in 2001 and director since 2013 of the Center of Excellence in Telesensing of Environment and Model Prediction of Severe Events (Cetemps), as well as vice president of the Master's degree programme in Scienze e tecnologie dell'atmosfera, a joint programme between Sapienza and the University of L'Aquila.

In 2016, he was named an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Fellow (IEEE) for contributions to microwave remote sensing in meteorology and volcanology. He had been a member of the Royal Meteorological Society (United Kingdom) since 2012 and was included in the Stanford University (USA) database of the world's Top 2% Scientists in 2020.
