Service-Learning Empowering Society: students talk about the impact of the Erasmus+ project

The Erasmus+ project "Service-Learning: Intersectoral Collaboration Practices for the development of students' soft skills and socially engaged universities" (SL-ICP), activated by the Department of Methods and Models for Economics, Territory and Finance and focusing on the integration of the Service-Learning methodology in European universities, has come to an end

Sapienza hosted the final event of the Erasmus+ Service-Learning: Intersectoral Collaboration Practices for the development of students' soft skills and socially engaged universities (SL-ICP) project at the Centro di Documentazione Europea" A. Spinelli" of the Faculty of Economics. The day provided an opportunity for an exchange between the partner universities on the results of the project, actions to be carried out and possible future collaborations.

Listening to the voices of the participants, it is possible to understand the concrete impact of service-learning, an experience that, according to the students, made them more aware and ready to face the world of work with a greater orientation towards social responsibility and civic engagement. Participants also report how the project helped them develop soft skills that they could use in their professional future.

The SL-ICP project, thanks to the commitment and cooperation of its partners, demonstrated how the collaboration between universities and civil society can enrich students' education and prepare a new generation of conscious professionals committed to social change. The project also stimulated the formation of an international network of universities and civil society organisations, laying the foundations for a future in which experiential learning and civic engagement become an integral part of higher education in Europe.

The closing event followed by a few weeks the Service-Learning European Forum, held in Bucharest from June 25 to 28, 2024, which was attended by more than 80 students, lecturers and academic staff members from the five partner countries: Greece, Spain, France, Romania and Italy. During the Forum, ten interactive sessions were organised, focusing on various aspects of Service-Learning, from its impact on students' skills to the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration between universities and civil society. One of the most eagerly awaited sessions was the presentation of the projects developed by the students, who were awarded for their social commitment.
