Information And Communication Technology (ict)
The PhD Course in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) aims at training scientists and engineers to design and develop innovative methodologies towards the design of systems, data processing, modeling, and applications, in the fields of electronic engineering, remote sensing, applied electromagnetics, information and communication engineering, and to conduct original research in these areas. Students are supported by supervisors, members of the Program Board, and scientific experts, performing highly and internationally recognized state-of-the-art research on the topics of the PhD Program. Students are individually assigned a specific research topic to be developed during the three-year course. The research carried out in the laboratories of the Department is supported by lectures and educational seminars, taught by Italian and foreign experts. The PhD Program Board also strongly encourages traveling in order to attend schools, conferences and workshops, disseminate results of the Doctoral research, and carry out research in Universities and research centers. In particular, the Curriculum in "Applied Electromagnetism" has the objective of enabling students to acquire innovative tools and methodologies aimed at the conception, development and creation of devices, circuits and systems that are capable of operating in the frequency range between industrial and optical frequencies. The Curriculum in "Electronic Engineering" aims to ensure that the doctoral student achieves a high level of qualification in the conception, modeling, design and creation of innovative electronic components and systems, in the related measurement techniques and quality control methodologies. The curriculum in "Information and Communication Engineering" aims to train researchers and engineers capable of mastering methodologies for the development of both wired and wireless telecommunications infrastructures, signal and multimedia content processing systems, algorithms (including those based on machine learning) and efficient, reliable, low environmental impact telecommunications. The curriculum in "Radar and Remote Sensing" aims to train researchers and engineers capable of conceiving and developing innovative methodologies for the design of active and passive remote sensing systems, complex radiolocalisation and navigation systems, information processing collected by such sensors and systems with particular reference to Earth observation and planetary exploration.
