Within the framework of the Agreement on Scientific and Technological Cooperation between the Government of the Italian Republic and the Government of the Argentine Republic, the Argentinean Secretaría de Innovación Ciencia y Tecnología (SICyT) and the Directorate General for Country Promotion (MAECI) of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Office IX, are publishing the Italy-Argentina 2026-2027 call for proposals for funding researchers' mobility for the development of joint projects in the following fields:

• physics, medical physics and astrophysics;
• artificial intelligence and applications for Earth observation;
• critical raw materials and renewable energy;
• agri-food technologies.

The project proposal must be drawn up jointly by the Italian and Argentinian scientific managers, and must be submitted to both funding agencies. The Italian Principal Investigator (PI) must submit the application through the MAECI portal no later than 17:00 CEST on July 24, 2025 (CEST).

The PI may only submit one project proposal.

An endorsement letter is not required at the project submission stage. However, the researcher proposing the project undertakes to submit one, if requested by MAECI, in the shortlisting phase. In this regard, it is recommended to obtain the prior authorisation for the submission of the application from the Consiglio di Dipartimento of affiliation.

Funding

Only the costs for researcher mobility (from January 1, 2026 to December 12, 2027) will be covered. Projects will be financed on an annual basis within the limits of the available budget and in accordance with the general foreign policy guidelines of each of the two countries.

The Italian side will bear the expenses of the outward and return journey of the Italian researchers to Argentina; it will provide the Argentinian researchers with insurance coverage for medical expenses and will contribute to the costs of their stay in Italy.

The Argentinian Party will bear the travel expenses to Italy of the Argentinian researchers and will provide, to the Italian researchers, a contribution to cover the costs of their stay in Argentina and any insurance taken out independently by the researchers themselves.

Pre-selection

As provided for in Article 5 of the call, only in the event of pre-selection of the project by MAECI will it be necessary to produce a letter of endorsement signed by the legal representative (Rector). In this case, the PI must send the following documentation to the Scientific Cooperation and Networks Unit (cooperazionepvs@uniroma1.it)

• pre-selection letter received from MAECI;
• copy of the pre-selected project;
• letter of indemnity from the Department Director, countersigned by the Chief departmental administrative officer (RAD), confirming the Department's willingness to cover the co-funding costs and all other charges deriving from the possible funding (the facsimile is available in the attachments section of this page)
• letter of endorsement (to be signed by the Rector).
