On May 13, 2022, the list of the 350 university departments admitted to the 2023 - 2027 selection procedure for the 180 "Dipartimenti di eccellenza" (Departments of Excellence) was published on the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) website. Sapienza had 23 departments on the list of 350 admitted.

15 departments per University were eligible for funding and, based on the final list published on December 28, 2022, by the MUR, the following 12 Sapienza departments out of the 15 admitted to the selection were funded:

• Physics
• Earth sciences
• Experimental medicine
• Psychology
• Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
• Ancient World Studies 
• Mathematics
• Molecular medicine
• History, Anthropology, Religions, Art, Performing Arts
• Literature and Modern Cultures
• History, Representation and Restoration of Architecture

This is a better result than in the previous 2018-2022 round, where 8 out of 15 departments were funded.
