Sapienza supports the entire research and innovation chain, promoting innovative and international doctoral training, supporting both basic and applied research, encouraging interdisciplinarity and intersectionality of research activities, working to support high-quality research, the transfer of research results to the productive fabric and society, as well as promoting the evaluation of research quality, by also using a product repository that guarantees transparency, accountability and open access.

The Sapienza strategy for Research is based on three guiding principles:

• support for basic research, participation in competitive calls, and the protection and enhancement of the knowledge generated, following the Sapienza Statute and in line with the provisions of the University Strategic Plan 2016-2021;
• the quadruple helix, i.e. collaboration and interaction between academia, business, public administration/policy-makers and civil society to develop joint programmes and actions on research and innovation to promote new models of economic and social development;
•  the 3 'O' model of European Commissioner Moedas who, since 2015, has based European research and innovation policies on "open science, open innovation and open to the world".

Annual report on research activity, technology transfer and funding obtained

The Report on the results of research, training and technology transfer activities, and funding obtained from public and private entities, approved by the Collegiate Bodies, provides an overview of Sapienza's main results in carrying out its institutional activities, under Law 01/2009. The Report illustrates the results achieved in terms of research, training, technology transfer, and resources attraction. Its aim is to ensure a transparent process in the communication of the actions undertaken based on the funding received, through disseminating and sharing information.
