1. Definition of graduating student. Students are considered to be graduating students if they have submitted the graduation application via Infostud within the prescribed deadlines and have acquired 96% (rounded down) of the credits envisaged for their programme, excluding the credits envisaged for the final degree exam, unless otherwise provided for by the individual Faculties in the Graduating student checklist
2. Tuition fees for those who graduate by January 31, 2025. Those who graduate by January 31, 2025, do not have to pay tuition fees for the 2024-2025 academic year. If they do not graduate within that date, the first and second instalments for the academic year 2024-2025 must be paid by January 31, 2025 (without a fine for late payment) and the third instalment by March 27, 2025.
Graduation sessions starting on February 1, 2025, will be meant for the academic year 2024-2025. The above-mentioned timetable does not apply to the Degree Programmes of the Health Professions for which the current regulations provide for two graduation periods for each academic year (the first in the October-November period and the second in the March-April period). As a consequence, the March-April 2025 session pertains to the academic year 2023-2024 and therefore the payment of tuition fees for the year 2024-2025 is not required.
3. Tuition fees for those who graduate by March 27, 2025. Graduating students who have paid the first and second instalments for the 2024-2025 academic year and who obtain their degree by March 27, 2025, do not pay the third instalment of tuition fees, which will be cancelled on the information system by their Student Affairs Office. This provision does not apply to students enrolled on part-time learning (Board of Governors resolution of December 9, 2009).
4. Payments for students who only have to take their final degree exam and are not up to date with their payments. In this case, graduating students must pay the University a fixed fee for each year of suspension, as indicated in Article 46 of these Regulations.
5. Payments for those enrolled in a degree programme qualifying for professional practice. Those enrolled in qualifying degree programmes when submitting their graduation application must also pay the ordinary fee for qualifying for professional practice, calculated on the basis of the Isee and up to a maximum of €180, to which the regional fee and the state tax must be added. Further information can be found in the graduating student checklist.
For international students who pay a fixed amount of tuition fees, the ordinary tuition fee for qualifying for professional practice will be paid on a pro-rata basis and distributed as follows (Board resolution of May 30, 2023):
- Group A (annual tuition fee of €300): professional practice qualifying fee = €36;
- Group B (annual tuition fee of €700): professional practice qualifying fee = €84;
- Group C (annual tuition fee of €1.500): professional practice qualifying fee = €180.
6. Choice of the supervising professor and of the subject of the thesis/final paper. The final degree exam for degree programmes involves the presentation of a dissertation. The topic must be agreed upon with a lecturer in a scientific-disciplinary sector included in the student's study plan among the foundation, core and related or supplementary activities. The final degree exam for Master's degree programmes involves writing a thesis with originality characteristics. The subject of the thesis must be agreed upon with a lecturer in a scientific-disciplinary sector included in the student's study plan. Students about to graduate are entitled to be assigned a thesis topic with a supervising professor at least six months before the end of their study plan and, in any case, within a maximum of 30 days from the time the request is submitted to the competent bodies.
In the event that the chosen professor is not available, the Programme Coordinator must identify a supervising professor for the student.
7. Thesis/final paper preparation. During the preparation of the thesis/final paper, supervising professors are required to assist students in their work. Students must produce an essay on the basis of the agreed indications, making explicit the sources used and adhering to the scientific conventions of the specific field of study with regard to the recognition of the work of others.
The duration of the commitment for the preparation of the final paper/thesis must be commensurate with the number of credits (ECTS) assigned to the final degree exam.
The thesis/final paper is an intellectual work of a creative nature with scientific content protected by copyright law (Law 633/1941).
The dissertation must be uploaded in the "Thesis" section of the graduation application (see below), only after acceptance by the Student Affairs Office.
8. Submission of the graduation application. The deadlines and procedures for submitting the graduation application are contained in the Graduating Student Checklist for each Faculty, available on the university website on the dedicated page, at the following link https://www.uniroma1.it/it/node/29481.
Further information, also related to the final exam, is published on the web page of each degree programme, in the "Graduation" section of the course catalogue on the corsidilaurea.uniroma1.it/en website.
The graduation application may be revoked and submitted in a subsequent graduation session (resubmission) in the same way as the first submission.
It is compulsory when submitting the graduation application to complete the Alma Laurea survey according to the procedures described on the web page https://www.uniroma1.it/almalaurea.
9. Final paper - thesis. The graduation application submission requires that the final paper or thesis, if applicable, must be uploaded in electronic format only. A paper format is not required.
10. Assessment of the student's study plan for graduation purposes. Before admitting students to the final degree exam, the Student Affairs Office is required to check the regularity of payments and of the entire educational pathway to verify compliance with the academic system, the Regulations of the degree programme and/or the study plan (if existing and authorised by the educational bodies), also in relation to the number of credits (ECTS) envisaged and any propedeutic order for taking courses. Students who do not comply with the regulations cannot be admitted to the final degree exam.
11. Early graduation. It is possible to graduate with the advancement of one session, subject to express authorisation for the advancement of individual exams by the Programme Coordinator and of the final degree exam by the Faculty Board (Academic Senate Resolution of November 22, 2005).
Particularly deserving students who have obtained authorisation from the Faculty to take their exams in advance and who have passed them with an average mark of 29 out of 30 may sit the final degree exam one year earlier (Academic Senate Resolution December 15, 2009).
Candidates who request to graduate a year earlier (either by a single semester or by an entire year) than the graduation session scheduled by the Educational Board of their degree programme are in any case required to pay the tuition fees for the final year of the programme in which they are enrolled.
12. Graduation parchment. The graduation parchment must be collected from the Student Affairs Office. Graduates will receive a communication by email (to the institutional email address, Art. 53) indicating when it will be possible to collect the parchment.
13. Duplicate of the graduation parchment following theft/loss/deterioration. To request a duplicate parchment following theft or loss, it is necessary to submit an application using the "Duplicate parchment" (Duplicato Pergamena) form available on the University website on the Student Forms page, attaching the report of theft or loss.
To request a duplicate of the parchment due to deterioration, it is necessary to submit the application in the same way as above and deliver the deteriorated original of which the duplicate is requested to the Student Affairs Office.
A payment of €70 and two revenue stamps worth €16 are due for the duplicate. Payment instructions are indicated on the form.
