Sapienza University welcomes scholars from countries involved in the Ukrainian conflict
From June, Sapienza will welcome 25 visiting professors from the countries involved in the Ukrainian conflict (21 from Ukraine and 4 dissident professors from the Russian Federation).
17 women and 8 men will carry out their academic activities, according to the disciplines they belong to, at the Faculties of Arts and Humanities, Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences, Medicine and Dentistry, Pharmacy and Medicine, Medicine and Psychology, Civil and Industrial Engineering, Information Engineering, Computer Science and Statistics and Law.
The scholars will be hosted thanks to a special € 300,000 allocation. The initiative was launched through a call for proposals approved by the Sapienza Board of Governors in March and specifically designed for researchers and lecturers at risk due to conflicts. The fund will allow the professors to stay in Rome for four months with a per capita allocation of 12,000 euros.
"This is an important sign of solidarity and commitment from Sapienza," says Rector Antonella Polimeni. "We decided on this initiative in the aftermath of the outbreak of war also to reinforce our message of peace, through research and knowledge as a tool for growth and unity among peoples".
