The prestigious Sigourney Award 2023 has been awarded to Vittorio Lingiardi, psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, Full Professor of Dynamic Psychology at the Faculty of Medicine and Psychology of Sapienza University. The prize gives international recognition to outstanding works that have advanced psychoanalytic thought at an international level.
The citation for the award recognises Lingiardi's "pioneering work in psychodynamic diagnosis and LGBTQ+ issues demonstrates an ability to bridge the gap between the richness and complexity of psychoanalytical clinical practice and the need for empirical soundness". Furthermore, "with his editorial contribution to the Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual (PDM-2) and his commitment to inclusive psychotherapy, Lingiardi has influenced and continues to influence the growth and development of contemporary psychoanalysis".
