Academic Year 2021-22: opening ceremony
Monday, November 22, 2021, Sapienza's Aula Magna hosted the opening ceremony of the 2021-22 Academic Year, the 719th since the foundation of our University. President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella attended the event.
Mayor of Roma Capitale, Roberto Gualtieri, President of the Lazio Region, Nicola Zingaretti and Minister of University and Research, Maria Cristina Messa delivered the institutional greetings followed by the opening speech by Rector Antonella Polimeni entitled "La constellazione delle responsabilità; il progetto di Sapienza per la società della conoscenza". Speeches by Malila Nazari, on behalf of the students, and Giuseppe Foti, on behalf of technical-administrative staff, followed. The ceremony continued with a lectio magistralis by Nobel Prize winner Giorgio Parisi entitled "Il senso della Scienza (The meaning of science)" and the official inauguration of the new academic year.
MuSa Classica orchestra conducted by Maestros Francesco Vizioli performed part of Antonio Vivaldi's "Il Gardellino" concert (soloist Camilla Refice)."
RAI, the Italian national public broadcasting company, presented a sneak peek of a documentary on Sapienza produced as part of the programme "Le Magnifiche" about Italian universities that have made history. It is directed by Aldo Zappalà and Mario Leombrun and will be broadcast on December 6, on Rai Storia.
