Accademia dei Lincei e ritratto di Roberto Antonelli

Accademia dei Lincei's new president is a Sapienza professor

Roberto Antonelli, professor emeritus of Romance Philology at Sapienza University, is the new president of the Accademia dei Lincei. The Accademia dei Lincei, founded in 1603 by Federico Cesi, is the highest Italian cultural institution and the world's oldest scientific Academy. Galileo Galilei was among its first partners.

As of August 1, 2021, he succeeds another Sapienza professor, the distinguished physicist Giorgio Parisi, who has led the Accademia dei Lincei since 2018. Antonelli was already vice-president of the Academy and president of the Class of Moral Sciences. For the Accademia dei Lincei, he oversaw the celebrations of the Triptych of Italian ingenuity, which began in 2019, with exhibitions dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael and Dante.

Roberto Antonelli studied Romance literature from the Middle Ages to the contemporary age, focusing on the twentieth century. He is the author of over 200 publications, has coordinated research on the European literary canon and the European lexicon of emotions, and was the first to promote new fields of study such as Material Philology and the Philology of the Reader.
