Beyond the Pillars of Media: an exhibition designed by students

The students of the Department of Ancient World Studies have designed an exhibition in the Museum of Classical Arts: display panels tell the story of the activities of the Sapienza Archaeological Mission in Iran (SAMIra), reconstructing maps and presenting photographs of monuments, reliefs and findings. A space dedicated to technology applied to cultural heritage has been set up for the occasion

On Wednesday, December 16, at the Museum of Classical Arts, in the Main Campus, the exhibition "Beyond the pillars of Media" was presented. Rectress Antonella Polimeni, His Excellency Hamid Bayat, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Italy, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Stefano Asperti, the Director of the Department of Ancient World Studies - Disa Giorgio Piras and the Director of Sapienza Museums Marcello Barbanera attended the event. The exhibition panels narrate the activities of the Sapienza Archaeological Mission in Iran (SAMIra), reconstructing maps and presenting photographs of monuments, reliefs and findings, and are the result of the workshop organised by professors Carlo Giovanni Cereti and Gianfilippo Terribili.

The exhibition takes the visitor into western Iran, exploring one of the main routes of the extensive communication network known as the 'Silk Road'. The focus is on the section through the heart of the historical region of Media, which over the centuries became a place of transition between the Mesopotamian Plain and the Iranian Plateau.
