European Researchers' Night is back, this year all about Maria Skłodowska Curie
As every year since 2005, the European Researchers' Night returns on the last Friday of September. The event, on September 27 and 28, aims to spread scientific culture across the EU and this year marks the 90th anniversary of the death of Maria Skłodowska Curie. Hundreds of scientists and researchers will run workshops, in-person and virtual tours, games and experiments, and interactive lectures to bring science closer to adults and children.
The 90th anniversary of the Polish scientist's death is the occasion for the events organised by NET - scieNcE Together (the consortium to which Sapienza belongs through a large delegation from various departments and museums belonging to the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences) to highlight her scientific, social and cultural legacy. A pioneer in the field of radioactivity and the first woman in history to win two Nobel Prizes, Maria Skłodowska Curie represents the combination of scientific excellence and a commitment to gender equality in science. The event will showcase her discoveries and their lasting impact on a wide range of scientific disciplines, from medicine to energy production.
The events organised for the occasion by the NET - scieNcE Together 2024-2025 project will take place in 21 locations throughout Italy and also abroad, in the key places of Maria Skłodowska Curie's life, and will culminate in Rome, inside the Città dell'Altra Economia in the Testaccio district, where a real science village will be set up.
