Sapienza: growing number of students with disabilities

On December 3, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Sapienza reviews and renews its commitment to build an increasingly inclusive and accessible University, also thanks to a contribution received from the Lazio Region to support activities and services for students with disabilities

Sapienza joins the celebrations of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with a moment of reflection to renew its commitment to inclusion, a value recognised by the growing number of students with disabilities and Specific Learning Difficulties who choose Sapienza for their studies every year.

The total number of enrolled students with disabilities and SLDs has increased from 2824 (of which 1842 with disabilities) in AY 2022-23 to the current 4494 (of which 2190 with disabilities) in AY 2024-25. An obvious growth that can be explained by the increasing range of services and opportunities offered by our University to guarantee the right to study and equal opportunities for all.

Pursuing the objective of enhancing full participation in academic life, in recent years Sapienza has been particularly committed to the management and support of students with disabilities and SLDs, through specific services such as: mediation with lecturers, tutoring (specialised and peer tutoring), purchase of study software, a multimedia room, targeted orientation and placement activities, dissertation prizes, and the enhancement of the educational offer with doctoral and specialisation courses..

This is also the direction taken by the actions that will be carried out thanks to a grant of 780,000 euros just approved by the Lazio Region to support students with learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, dyscalculia and dysgraphia, in order to promote inclusive and innovative teaching.
