Sapienza for National Day for Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles. M'illumino di meno - No borders 2024

To mark National Day for Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles, on Friday, February 16, Sapienza joins the "M'illumino di meno" campaign. University building façade lighting will be turned off

Sapienza joins the National Day for Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles - "M'illumino di Meno" campaign again this year.

On Friday, February 16, Sapienza will keep the lighting on the Rectorate building façade, the Main Campus's propylaea and the façades of the external Sapienza Faculties switched off.
Sapienza promotes this special day by raising awareness among Sapienza community staff and citizens about more responsible energy consumption and the adoption of sustainable practices.

M'illumino di Meno is a campaign launched in 2005 by the Rai Radio 2 programme Caterpillar and is celebrated every year on February 16 - to mark the anniversary of the Kyoto Protocol on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions - to promote a culture of environmental sustainability and resource saving. In 2022, the Italian Parliament proclaimed February 16 as the National Day for Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles.

The 2024 edition is entitled No borders, with a view to creating international alliances to join energy saving initiatives. Actions proposed for the day include organising switch-offs, eating by candlelight and replacing cars with bicycles.

On Friday, February 16, the Sapienza Mobility Manager invites the entire University community to get to work by sustainable means of transport (walking, cycling, public transport or shared mobility) and to activate the pedometer on their smartphone. By filling out the online form to register the number of steps or kilometres travelled in sustainable mode, we contribute to the M'illumino di meno campaign which aims to reach the 1,600 kilometres or 2,200,000 steps that separate our Main Campus from the Eiffel Tower, and which, in the year of the Olympic Games, includes Paris, which is so committed to cycling.

On the same evening, the lights of the Luca Serianni Student Residence will be switched off and a candlelit aperitif will be organised to make young students aware of the need to take care of the planet and how it is possible to enjoy moments of sharing and fun, even by switching off lights and non-essential electrical appliances.

M'illumino di Meno is also promoted by Rus-Network of Universities for Sustainable Development, of which Sapienza is a member.

CIVIS - European Civic University will support the campaign with dissemination activities among the alliance members.
