World's Top 2% Scientists

Sapienza in the World Ranking of Scientist

The ranking of the most quoted and authoritative scientists in the world, published by researchers at Stanford University, includes 161 academics from our University in the World's Top 2% Scientists, confirming the quality of Sapienza's scientific research in all disciplines

161 academics of Sapienza are in the World's Top 2% Scientists, the database of scholars who stand out worldwide for their scientific authority based on the number of publications and citations in the relevant disciplinary areas.

The list drafted by three researchers from Stanford University contains around 160,000 names from around the world - 2% of over six million researchers - assessed according to the number of articles and citations for each author in the relevant discipline. Twenty-two scientific areas and 176 subcategories were examined, collecting data from Scopus, the leading database for scientific publications.

Among the 161 Sapienza scholars are Giorgio Parisi, professor of theoretical physics and president of the Accademia dei Lincei, Francesco Sciortino, professor of physics, who was awarded a European Research Council (ERC) grant, and Paolo Bianco, professor of pathological anatomy and director of our University's stem cell laboratory, who died prematurely a few years ago.

The list of academics who have distinguished themselves in this particular league of scientific excellence continues and ranges across several departments, confirming the quality of Sapienza's scientific research in many and varied disciplines: chemistry, management, social and economic sciences, mathematics, statistics, neuroscience and numerous branches of engineering (nonlinear dynamics, electronics, mechanics and transport) and medicine (molecular, experimental, translational and precision).
