State-of-the-art electromedical equipment donated to Policlinico Umberto I General Hospital. A further step against COVID-19
On Tuesday, April 27, 2021, state-of-the-art electromedical equipment was donated by US Embassy to the A&E department of the Policlinico Umberto I General Hospital. The intensive care unit was thus equipped with an additional 10 tilting beds, with integrated scales and anti-decubitus mattress, 10 central multi-parameter monitors, equipped with an extra transport monitor and a monitoring unit (associated with 5 repeater monitors) that allows the control of patients' vital parameters, for a minimum of 72 hours, in the different environments of resuscitation.
The American Embassy donated about 259,000 euros to help take a further step forward in the fight against the current pandemic. Hospitals and A&E departments, in particular, have worked uninterruptedly and have seen an enormous use of both human and technological resources. From March 2020 to date, approximately 7,000 COVID-19 patients have been admitted to Umberto I Hospital, among them 600 to the ICU, with a peak of 150 patients in March-April 2021. Umberto I General Hospital represents the most advanced frontier for the care of COVID-19 patients in the Lazio Region, which has entrusted the facility with a role of great responsibility. 500 beds with graduated intensity of care, dedicated to COVID patients in need of hospitalization and inpatient treatment, have been recently activated.
