On Monday 17 June, the 22nd edition of the Young Talents Italia Prize - L'Oréal UNESCO for Women and Science was held in Milan. During the ceremony, six women researchers were honoured, among them Bernadette Basilico, researcher at the 'Vittorio Erspamer' Department of Physiology and Pharmacology of Sapienza University.

The jury, comprising Italian university professors and scientific experts and chaired by Lucia Votano, affiliated Research Manager at the National Institute for Nuclear Physics, selected the deserving researchers for their projects after careful evaluation.

Bernadette Basilico, a neurobiologist with a PhD in neuroscience, focuses her research on particular conditions affecting the nervous system so that new therapeutic targets can be identified for the treatment of neurological and neuroinflammatory diseases. In particular, her project is based on the study of patient-specific mechanisms in pathology related to the SYNGAP1 mutation in order to develop targeted therapeutic strategies.
