The candidate must present a research project that will be used to assess their methodological skills, research inclination, and ability to plan and organize the various stages of research. The project must be submitted in the form of a PowerPoint file (5-8 slides) where the candidate must highlight the following aspects:

  1. Introduction
  2. Methods
  3. Statistical sample calculation
  4. Expected results and/or translational impact

In the research project, the candidate must demonstrate clear abilities to design, organize, and develop scientific research independently.

Educational goals

The main objective of the DigiCardioPaTh International PhD Programme is to train expert researchers in the field of cardiovascular diseases, able to contribute to the expansion of knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence, to identify innovative diagnostic and therapeutic solutions to complex problems, through the implementation of miniaturised instrumentation for the remote diagnostic monitoring and effectiveness of the adopted therapies. A qualifying point of the DigiCardioPaTh is represented by the establishment of an international network that enables the doctoral student to benefit from an interdisciplinary and transnational approach, including through minimum periods of 1 year in the other consortium centres. The PhD course envisages that the student can choose to complete his or her training among 3 different curricula: 1) Endovascular and structural interventional cardiology; 2) Cardiomyopathies and arrhythmias; 3) Advanced non-invasive cardiovascular imaging. The curricula are structured in such a way that the doctoral student can deepen sector-specific topics through teaching by national and international experts with a focus on evidence-based methodologies in each field. The endovascular and structural interventional cardiology curriculum aims at deepening the most advanced endovascular techniques for the diagnosis and treatment guidance of complex cardiovascular pathologies. The doctoral student will also be provided with the notions to be able to develop new and more sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms also with the application of machine learning techniques; The Cardiomyopathies and arrhythmias curriculum aims to optimise the diagnosis and treatment of different types of cardiomyopathies (dilatative, hypertrophic, hypertensive, arrhythmic, etc.) through the in-depth study of clinical, genetic, bio-humoral and instrumental diagnostic screening techniques, as well as to assess the appropriate management of tele-monitoring methods. The Advanced Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Imaging curriculum, which is strongly integrated with the previous two, will specifically focus on training the doctoral student in existing non-invasive diagnostic-instrumental techniques and providing the tools to develop new diagnostic algorithms or applications based on identified 'unmet needs'.
