The Future and Emerging Technologies is a bottom-up funding programme that aims to promote frontier research through alternative and non-conventional ideas in science and technology.

It includes the following actions:

• FET Open: initial research on emerging ideas
• FET Proactive: research on emerging issues that must still be transferred to industry
• FET Flagship: large-scale research initiatives that are expected to have a great impact on technology and society, such as the "Graphene" and "Human Brain Project" Flagship Actions.

The Grant Office provides specialist administration and management competences for the following activities: 

• Pre-feasibility evaluation
• Proposal drafting support
• Partnership creation
• Project management
