1. Requirements and terms
A. You may request to interrupt your university career if you intend to enrol in:
- another programme provided by Italian military training institutes;
- another programme provided by a foreign university.
B. At the time of submitting your application:
- you must be up to date with your contributions
- you must not have another interruption of your studies for the same reason.
C. After submitting your application, you will no longer be able to take and record exams for the interrupted programme.
D. In the case of enrolment in a programme provided by Italian military training institutes, the duration of the interruption is equal to the time dedicated to obtaining the qualification for which your studies were suspended.
E. In the case of enrolment in a programme provided abroad by higher education institutions, the duration of the interruption is limited to the duration of the programme, regardless of the time taken to obtain the qualification.

The application must be submitted by the deadline specified in the call for applications for the other programme (military or foreign).
4. Costs
The interruption application requires the payment of a stamp duty of €16.
5. Resuming your studies
Degree programmes may be deactivated over the years. Therefore, when you resume your studies, you may enrol in a different degree programme than the one you originally enrolled in.
A. Resuming your studies after you have been awarded a degree
If you have been awarded a degree from the second programme (military or foreign), in order to resume your studies at La Sapienza, you must:
- submit a stamped application to the Administrative Office by the deadline for payment of the first instalment for the academic year in which you are resuming your studies;
- attach a self-certification of the qualification (or original certification if awarded abroad).

Upon reactivation, the assessment of studies undertaken and exams taken, both in Italy and abroad, is not permitted.
B. Resumption of studies in the case of a degree NOT awarded
B1. If you intend to resume your studies by taking advantage of concurrent enrolment (see Art. 4), you can send your request for concurrent enrolment by the deadline for payment of the first instalment for the academic year of resumption. After the successful completion of the required auditing, the Secretariat will reactivate your academic career for the former programme.
B2. If you intend to resume your studies without taking advantage of concurrent enrolment, you must:
- send a stamped application to the Administrative Office by the deadline for payment of the first instalment for the academic year in which you are resuming your studies;
- attach the receipt for your application to withdraw from the other degree programme or a self-certification.
6. Costs for resuming your studies in the event of a degree that was not awarded
If the period of interruption does not exceed the expected duration of the second programme, you do not have to pay anything when you resume your studies.
If, on the other hand, the period of interruption exceeds the expected limits, the fees for reactivating your studies will apply (see Art. 42).
29bis. Interruption of ongoing studies for admission to the open semester in Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine programmes
1. Requirements and terms
A. If you are currently enrolled in a degree programme, you can enrol in the open semester to access Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine courses by temporarily suspending your current course of study.
B. Any laboratory and internship activities planned for the current academic year must be completed by the start date of the open semester educational activities referred to in Article 4, paragraph 1, of Ministerial Decree 418/2025.
C. After submitting your application, you will no longer be able to take and record exams for the suspended programme.

3. Deadlines
You must submit your application by the deadline for enrolment in the open semester.
4. Resumption of studies
If, at the end of the open semester, you are not in a position to be in the ranking to enrol in the degree programme in Medicine and Surgery or Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics or Veterinary Medicine, you may resume the degree programme you have suspended for the academic year 2025-2026.
