Sapienza HySIA-2021 team first in the European More&Less competition
The HySIA-2021 student team from the School of Aerospace Engineering won the European MDO and REgulations for Low-boom and Environmentally Sustainable Supersonic aviation (More&Less) competition with the project Shar, Design of Supersonic and Hybrid Engine Based Advanced Rocket
Students Naresh, Caio, Amalia, Phaneendra and Júlia obtained the highest score by presenting the design of an innovative launcher for placing a 100 kg payload at an altitude of 200 km. The launcher consists of a solid booster in the first stage, an axisymmetric scramjet motor in the second stage and a hybrid motor for the third stage. The award was given for the innovative idea, commitment and capabilities. The group of young scholars will present their project at the 11th EASN International Conference to be held virtually from September 1 to 3, 2021.
The More&Less Academy, funded by the European H2020 programme, aims to study, through a holistic and multidisciplinary process, the entire supersonic speed regime and the most promising aircraft configurations, propulsion technologies and alternative fuels. More&Less organises competitions between teams of European students and researchers to assess how the enabling technologies of supersonic aircraft, their trajectories and operation meet environmental requirements.
