The Summer School program Renaissance Architecture in Rome: tools and methods of analysis - RAR  aims to present tools and methods of analysis of historical buildings, in particular of Renaissance architecture in Rome, by comparing textual and iconographic sources with the direct examination of buildings, in terms of form, material and constructive characteristics. It will consist of a series of lectures, field trips to the most important Roman monuments of the 15th and 16th centuries, laboratory experiences and workshops. The Summer School RAR, taught in English, welcomes applications from students from all nations and will provide them with the basic tools of drawing, architectural surveying, analysis of architectural orders and exploration of historical construction techniques, namely the research tools traditionally used by the so-called Roman School of Architecture. In addition to the lectures, students will be involved in six Renaissance Architecture Labs, conceived as workshops in situ, that will provide the opportunity to visit and examine a few ancient and Renaissance monuments in Rome and Latium. Applying a hands-on approach, students will try out various methods of investigation, such as the direct examination of the physical condition of a building and of its masonry, or the analysis of the architectural elements through surveying and drawing. Such experiences and knowledge may help students in choosing their future educational paths in the fields of Architecture, History of Art and Architecture, or Restoration.

(Architettura del Rinascimento a Roma: strumenti e metodi di analisi) presenta strumenti e metodi per lo studio dell'architettura, in particolare di quella realizzata a Roma tra il XV e il XVI secolo, accostando alla ricerca bibliografico-archivistica e allo studio delle fonti scritte lo studio diretto dell'oggetto architettonico tramite l'analisi delle sue caratteristiche formali, materiche e costruttive. La Summer School, erogata in lingua inglese, si propone di fornire gli strumenti base del disegno e del rilievo per accostarsi alla lettura e all'analisi dei paramenti murari, degli ordini architettonici, delle soluzioni distributive e spaziali. Gli studenti saranno attivamente coinvolti, oltre che per mezzo di conferenze sulle caratteristiche dell'architettura del Rinascimento a Roma, di lezioni frontali sui metodi usati nella disciplina e di visite guidate, anche attraverso una serie di workshop in situ, in cui gli studenti potranno confrontarsi con lo studio diretto di alcuni edifici, applicando le metodologie acquisite in aula. Tali metodologie potranno orientare i frequentanti nelle successive scelte formative e professionali nel campo della storia, della rappresentazione e del restauro architettonico nonché nella redazione in autonomia di progetti di ricerca in ambito dottorale e post-dottorale.
