EU -UK Agreement: The University of Glasgow can take part in Horizon Europe projects under CIVIS

The UK government and the European Commission have reached an agreement: UK universities will be able to access certain European funding lines, including Horizon Europe. The University of Glasgow, a full member of the CIVIS alliance, will therefore also be able to be included in any collaborative research and innovation initiative

Thanks to the agreement reached between the UK government and the European Commission, the University of Glasgow, a full member of the CIVIS alliance, will also be able to be included in any initiative to access Horizon Europe funds, the largest collaborative funding programme for research and innovation.

Under the agreement, from January 1, 2024, UK researchers and organisations will be able to participate on an equal footing with their counterparts in the Member States, enhancing the opportunity to be part of a global network of researchers and innovators aiming to tackle global challenges in climate, energy, mobility, digital, industry and space, health and more. This solution follows extensive discussions between the EU and the UK and will be mutually beneficial, allowing for a deeper relationship in research, innovation and space, bringing together the research and space communities.

The opportunity for the University of Glasgow to participate in Horizon Europe projects is an asset for the CIVIS alliance, which will enable the development of inter-university research and projects to be intensified.

The Horizon Europe programme is at the heart of scientific collaboration and allows universities, research organisations and scientists to work together, carrying out studies that would not be possible without collaboration on this scale.
