Shared Horizons. Music beyond borders

MuSa Classica Orchestra, the Magnificat Conservatory of Jerusalem, and musicians from Scampia and Madrid come together in the Aula Magna for a special concert

On Monday, May 11, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., the Rectorate Building's Aula Magna will be hosting the concert Orizzonti condivisi. La musica oltre i confini (Shared Horizons. Music beyond borders).

Sapienza will host a special concert bringing together different stories, backgrounds, and languages in a single musical experience. The evening will feature the MuSa Classica Orchestra of Sapienza, conducted by Maestro Demetrio Moricca, joined for the occasion by musicians from three other Italian and international musical institutions. Among the guests will be musicians from the Magnificat Conservatory in Jerusalem, one of the schools of the Custody of the Holy Land — a unique institution where Jewish, Muslim, and Christian teachers and students, both Israeli and Palestinian, perform together. They will be joined by young musicians from the Scampia “Musica Libera Tutti” school, the Neapolitan embodiment of Antonio Abreu’s El Sistema, a symbol of social commitment and renewal through culture. Finally, ten musicians from the Autonomous University of Madrid will take part as part of the Open Lab project of the CIVIS alliance, whose aim is to use music as a universal language of unity, inclusion, and community.

The performance will also feature several Instruments of the Sea, crafted from the wood of migrant boats that reached the shores of the Mediterranean. Marked by difficult journeys, these objects have now been transformed into instruments of dialogue, memory, and hope.

At a time marked by tension and division, music becomes a shared language and a space for encounter, capable of transcending geographical, religious, and social boundaries. The concert aims to be a tangible act of solidarity and sharing, bringing together universities, local communities, and diverse groups in a single harmony. It is an event that invites reflection on the value of culture as a bridge between people and on the role of the university as a place of dialogue, inclusion, and the building of a shared future.

The programme features works by Elgar, Bruch, Schubert and Marquez.
