Amico cane. Wolves and dogs from prehistory to the present day.

Wednesday September 26, at the Odeion Room of the Faculty of Humanities, there will be the conference "Amico cane. Lupi e cani dalla preistoria ad oggi". 

Over the debate will be discussed remains found in the archeological area of Pyrgi, S. Severa, of a dog sacrified in the rite of foundation on a building. The remains are nowadays exposed at Sapienza's Museo delle Antichità etrusche e italiche

The topic will be analized from a perspective of different disciplines: the paleontologist will suggest the fist dog's domestication;  the archaeologist will discuss the role of the dog in antiquity, through the archaeological documentation of dog remains in necropolis, urban and sanctuary areas and images from ancient finds. Finally, the zoologist will discuss the current topic of the wolf, its condition and the difficulties of the controversial reintroduction in the mountain areas of Italy.

Speakera at the conference will be: Raffaele Sardella, paleontologist , Laura Maria Michetti e Martina Zinni, archaeologists, Eugenio Cerilli, archaeozoologist, and Paolo Ciucci, zoologist. The initiative is part of the events for the European Researchers' Week.
