E-registry for sarcopenic obesity presented

The Department of Experimental Medicine is leading the collaborative project to create a database of patients’ demographic and clinical data that will be made operational in a digital platform implemented by BlueCompanion

The Food Science and Human Nutrition Research Unit of the Department of Experimental Medicine, under the coordination of Lorenzo Donini, has initiated and is leading a collaborative project with Bluecompanion to develop an electronic registry (Sarcopenic Obesity e-Registry) for sarcopenic obesity, a clinical condition characterised by the combination of obesity and sarcopenia, i.e. reduced skeletal muscle mass accompanied by reduced muscle function.

The database, which will collect comprehensive patient demographic and clinical data, will be hosted on a new digital platform designed and managed by BlueCompanion, an SME specialising in the provision of digital services to the healthcare and clinical research sectors.

The project was presented at the annual conference of the Società Italiana Obesità (SIO) in Rome on October 5.

The tool will facilitate clinical research through epidemiological insights, long-term monitoring of treatments and patient recruitment in trials.

But not only that, the e-registry will also enable improved patient care through the identification of best clinical practices and the development of ad-hoc guidelines against the disease, fostering greater involvement and supporting empowerment and self-management initiatives.
