Four Sapienza students win Alpine Climate Data Challenge
The GreenVengers team won the Alpine Climate Data Challenge: the hackathon promoted by Telt (Tunnel euroalpin Turin Lyon) together with the start-up Open Data Playground. The winners are four Sapienza students: Nicolò Quartararo, Alessandro Rem Picci, Filippo Volante and Alessandro Zocchi, who presented their project "Tȇte-à-Telt: harnessing data and innovation for real environmental impact" at the awards ceremony in Turin. The jury recognised the team's ability to analyse data not only to describe climate change, but also in relation to the environment, wildlife and biodiversity, going so far as to involve citizens and communities through the development of smart applications.
The aim of the hackathon was to develop sustainable and resilient strategies and guide citizens, businesses and institutions towards a new approach to the Alps by simulating the impact of climate change on the mountain ranges between France and Italy between now and 2050.
The initiative brought together 160 students and researchers from 37 universities and 13 countries around the world. Italian universities involved included the Politecnico di Torino and Politecnico di Milano.
