
International Women's Day at Sapienza
On International Women's Day, Sapienza reaffirms its commitment to combatting gender discrimination and all forms of violence against women.
On Wednesday, March 8, at 9 am, the Rectorate building's Aula Magna will be hosting the event in Italian, "Pari opportunità o opportunità tra pari? Giornata internazionale dei diritti della donna", focusing on the rights denied to women in the world, gender equality and the role of women in media communication. Literary passages and musical interludes will also be offered.
On the same day at 11.00 am, in the Arts and Humanities' building, Chabod lecture hall, Tamar Herzig from Tel Aviv University will hold the seminar, in Italian, "Schiavitù femminile nell'Europa mediterranea di età moderna" (Female Slavery in Mediterranean Europe in the Modern Age).
Like every year, the Sapienza in Movimento student association is organising several events related to health and wellbeing. From 10.00 am until 4.00 pm, in the avenue in front of the Minerva statue, on the Main Campus, the entire Sapienza community will have stands on psychological counselling and Sapienza Anti-Violence Centre, stalls on topics related to psychophysical wellbeing, sexual orientation and gender equality, the opportunity to donate blood and register in the bone marrow donor registry, as well as personalised talks with psychologists and psychotherapists.
At 5 pm, the Auditorium of the Prima Clinica Medica (Policlinico Umberto I general hospital) will be hosting the Women in Surgery conference, in Italian, organised by the Società Romana di Chirurgia.
The Museo di Storia della medicina (Museum of the History of Medicine) will be hosting the exhibition "Scarpe rosse in Sapienza. Contro la violenza di genere" (Red Shoes at Sapienza. Against gender violence). Works by independent artists and students from the schools that took part in the project will be showcased.
