Museum Night at Sapienza for children and grownups
On Saturday, May 14, from 3 pm, as part of the Notte dei Musei events, 14 Sapienza museums will be hosting seminars, music, workshops, guided tours and much more for children and grownups of all ages. The events are free of charge. On-campus refreshment stands and parking spots open to everyone.
The Earth Science Museum - which also hosts the ongoing exhibition "Terra: che sorpresa!" (Earth: what a surprise!) – will be presenting one of the most iconic fossils found in the Roman countryside, namely the skull of the oldest wolf in Europe: hands-on activities are included in which visitors will be able to touch 3D copies of the find and learn how to study a fossil.
At the Museum of Classical Art, the workshop "Che statua sei? Un algoritmo di intelligenza artificiale ti indicherà a quale statua assomigli" (What statue are you? An AI algorithm will tell you what statue you look like).
At the Museum of Anthropology, an educational workshop on biochemistry: beads of different colours associated with a source of food will be assembled by the children based on their daily and weekly diet, creating personalised bracelets that restore the chemical composition of bones.
Other initiatives for the children include special tours in the Museum of Anthropology, the reconstruction of painted tombs in the Museum of Etruscan and Italic Antiquities, sensory paths to recognise foods from all over the world (Museum of Geography) and workshops in the Museum of the History of Medicine.
Off-campus events are also planned, such as the Botanical Garden with "The Children's Garden" (soil and shovels in hand, the little scientists will be able to learn to recognise the seeds of many plants and choose their favourite to take home to see it germinate) and the Museum of Comparative Anatomy, with the restoration of the paper-mache anatomical models of the French naturalist and anatomist Jerome Azoux on display, true works of art of the highest scientific and educational value.
At the Museum of Zoology, professional entomologists will talk to visitors and answer their questions by showing the collections.
