Stevo Pendarovski, President of North Macedonia, was invited to Sapienza University on November 7, 2019 as part of the activities organised by the Faculty of Political Science, Sociology and Communications. President Pendarovski held a lesson on "The Agreement of Prespa: European Integration and Regional Challenges” for the Contemporary History Degree Programme. The students exchanged views with the President on the key issue of building a Europe respectful of regional identities, an issue that is particularly important in the Balkans.

Other speakers included Rector Eugenio Gaudio, the Dean of the Faculty of Political Science, Sociology and Communications Tito Marci, the President of the “Fondazione Roma Sapienza” Antonello Folco Biagini and Augusto D'Angelo, Professor of Contemporary History.

The Agreement of Prespa was signed on June 12, 2018 between Greece and the Republic of Macedonia to resolve the longstanding issue of the Republic’s name, which after the signature of the treaty is officially “Republic of North Macedonia.” In fact, the agreement was also fundamental to plan the admission of North Macedonia to the European Union, scheduled for 2025.
