Sapienza for the M'illumino di meno campaign 2021

Once again this year, our University is taking part in "M'illumino di meno", the energy-saving campaign promoted by the Rai Radio 2 show "Caterpillar", by switching off the main campus's lights of the propylaea and the monumental gateway on March 26. The 2021 edition is dedicated to the ideal "evolutionary jump" we should take to come out of this pandemic as better people

Once again this year, our University is taking part in "M'illumino di meno", the energy-saving campaign, promoted by the Rai Radio 2 programme "Caterpillar", by keeping the Main campus's lights to a minimum on the evening of Friday, March 26.

The monumental gateway with its propylaea will be turned off at 7 pm to ideally look at the statue of Minerva by Arturo Martini in the background, a symbol of wisdom and the arts, whose arms reaching upwards reminds us of the constant need for evolution. The entire Sapienza university community is invited to switch off the lights at the indicated time or limit the lighting to what is strictly necessary to carry out one's activities.

The 2021 edition is dedicated to the ideal "evolutionary jump" we should take to come out of this pandemic as better people. A virus has brought us to our knees because of the cross-species transmission from a bat to a pangolin, from pangolin to human beings. We have realised how fragile, how dramatically interconnected we are, how we have worn down the world we live in by endangering it. It is now our turn to make an evolutionary jump by changing the way we live on the planet. Each of us is called upon to become "greener", more responsible, more sustainable, more efficient, more intelligent, more in harmony with our planet.

The event is promoted by the RUS Network of Universities for Sustainable Development, coordinated by Livio de Santoli, the Rectress's delegate for Building and Energy policies.

As part of its sustainability activities, this year Sapienza is once again organising the Sustainability Sciences Course for all its 100,000 students, secondary school students from Rome and its province and public administration employees. Over the next ten months, all our faculties will organise lectures, debates, seminars and meetings involving leading specialists in all disciplines of the UN 2030 Agenda.
