Sapienza mourns the passing of Marcello Barbanera
On behalf of the entire university community, Rector Antonella Polimeni expresses her sincere condolences for the untimely death of Marcello Barbanera, Professor of Archaeology and History of Greek and Roman Art at the Department of Ancient World Studies. His study and research activities were inextricably linked to the Sapienza Museum of Classical Art since 1991, when he was its curator, before becoming its Director in recent years. His interests ranged from Greek sculpture to the history of collecting, from the archaeology of Magna Graecia to museography, and he was interested in exploring the definition of art in Greek society. He will always be remembered as a scholar of great value and a passionate professor.
