INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES IN DISEASES OF SKELETON, SKIN AND ORO-CRANIO-FACIAL DISTRICT
The common objective of the Research Doctorate in INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES IN DISEASES OF SKELETON, SKIN AND ORAL-CRANIO-FACIAL DISTRICT is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge and application of innovative technologies that cross through a translational approach, bringing together all the various specialties involved in the study of skeletal and skin disorders belonging to basic medicine, applied medical/surgical sciences and biomedical research. The approach to the study of skeleton and skin diseases (inflammatory, degenerative, metabolic and neoplastic) has radically changed in recent years with the advent of new methods of analysis (from clinical-instrumental anatomy to physiopathology, from molecular biology to proteomics, from classic morphological - structural and ultrastructural - and functional analysis to in vitro and single cell studies). There is also growing evidence concerning the importance of the involvement of stem cell compartments and their use as in the case of mesenchymal cells of human derivation taken from the dental pulp and cells of the microenvironment in the pathogenesis of the aforementioned diseases. Finally, it should be also emphasized the increasing development of the experimental medicine and of medical/surgical biotechnologies such as the evaluation and the use of new biomaterials-biomimetics combined with sophisticated and minimally invasive surgical techniques. Given the multidisciplinary nature of this approach, it is therefore necessary to set up a PhD course not only finalized to train PhD doctoral students able of using different methods, but above all to provide them with an unifying vision of the preventive, etiopathogenetic and therapeutic processes involved in the development of a disease by applying innovative technologies. The Research Doctorate in INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES IN DISEASES OF SKELETON, SKIN AND ORAL-CRANIO-FACIAL DISTRICT is composed of four curricula: a. ODONTOSTOMATOLOGICAL DISEASES b. NEUROSCIENCES AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY c. PATHOLOGICAL ANATOMY d. DERMATOLOGY, ANATOMY AND PLASTIC SURGERY LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1) Research activities within a group in order to develop a well-defined line of research; 2) Acquisition of advanced skills on the methodologies used to achieve the defined objectives; 3) Acquisition of methodological skills on basic techniques used in research obtained through theoretical and practical training courses delivered by teachers of the PhD doctoral course or by scientific organizations; 4) Acquisition of theoretical knowledge about the most important research advances obtained attending: scientific seminars; post-graduate courses, electives addressing topics of medical/non-medical interest; conferences, meetings and workshops; 5) Acquisition of skills related to experimental data presentation, discussion of the content of articles found in the scientific literature and dissemination of the results obtained in relevant fields of research.
