Educational goals

The PhD in Translational Medicine and Oncology intends to train professionals capable of carrying out moments of cultural synthesis by combining different skills so that they can be inserted in national and international public and private research centers. The PhD student's study aims to identify prognostic, predictive and therapeutic factors, with particular regard to Experimental and Surgical Research, Digestive Diseases and Gynecological and Obstetrical Sciences; the aims of the research will be oriented towards the development of Gender Medicine as a branch that studies the biological and socio-cultural differences between men and women, influencing their state of health, as well as the response to therapy. The Doctorate is developed in a transversal and integrated way in three Curricula: METHODS OF EXPERIMENTAL AND SURGICAL RESEARCH IN ONCOLOGY Curriculum aims to develop research starting from the most current studies in the field of molecular biology, gene expression modifications, genetic mutations, oncogenic mechanisms and related molecular targets, thus developing innovative surgical and therapeutic techniques aimed at promoting "Target Therapy" DIGESTIVE DISEASES Curriculum is based on epidemiological factors and established principles of health interventions aimed at preventing, treating neoplasms, including palliative therapies. At the present time, basic research and diagnostic research lines are being studied, interventional studies in vitro and in vivo, screening programs on colon, pancreas, liver, stomach and esophagus cancers. Another line of research is to define risk factors in rare diseases of the digestive system. GYNECOLOGICAL AND OBSTETRIC SCIENCES: Curriculum has the objective of providing high scientific training for research aimed at identifying predictive and prognostic biological-molecular factors for the diagnosis and treatment of gynecological tumors. Furthermore, another aspect of research is the preservation of fertility in cancer patients and by the study of pregnancy after cancer. The training course includes didactic activities, seminars, journal clubs, theoretical-practical lessons from the bench to the bed side. The involvement of the PhD student in the various phases of scientific activity and gradual insertion leads him to manage all the research aspects. During the PhD the students have the possibilities to go abroad for researching at foreign locations in co-supervision. PhD student is involved in the activities up to a maximum of forty hours per year to complete the training for a potential university continuation. The verification of the activity carried out is monitored through the display of the progress of the research with the Tutors and the analysis of the data through the use of statistical analysis.
